📘 How to use the MediNilam App

Your complete step‑by‑step guide 💊📱

1️⃣ Download & Set Up the App

  • Go to Google Play Store
  • Search for MediNilam
  • Tap Install
  • Open the app once installation is complete

2️⃣ Enable Notifications 🔔 (Very Important!)

MediNilam sends you reminders and alarms for your medicines. To receive them on time, you must allow notifications and adjust a few phone settings.

📌 Step 1 — Allow App Notifications

  • Open Settings
  • Tap App notifications
  • Find MediNilam App
  • Turn Allow Notifications ON
  • Make sure Sound is enabled

✔ This ensures you never miss a dose.

📌 Step 2 — Battery Optimization → Set to Unrestricted

Some phones block alarms to “save battery.” To prevent this:

  • Open Settings
  • Tap Apps
  • Select MediNilam
  • Tap Battery
  • Select Unrestricted

✔ This allows alarms and reminders to work even when the phone is idle.

📌 Step 3 — Do Not Disturb Override → Allowed

To allow MediNilam to ring:

  • Open Settings
  • Tap Apps
  • Tap Special Access
  • Tap Do Not Disturb Access
  • Allow MediNilam

✔ This ensures alarms ring even during Do Not Disturb mode.

3️⃣ Allow App Permissions 📲

When you open MediNilam for the first time, tap Allow for:

  • Notifications
  • Alarm permission
  • Phone permission (for calling your bystander)

✔ These are required for reminders, alarms, and direct calling.

4️⃣ Log In or Create an Account 👤

  • Tap REGISTER if you’re new
  • Tap LOG IN if you already have an account
  • Enter your details and continue

5️⃣ Welcome Page

On the welcome page, by clicking CONTINUE you agree to our terms. You can read our terms on our website: www.alnilam.lk

6️⃣ Add a Medicine 💊

You can add medicines one by one, based on:

  • Type of medicine
  • Dose
  • Frequency
  • Alarm time

Tap Add Medicine and follow the steps.

7️⃣ Select the Medicine Type 🧪

Choose the correct category:

  • Tablet
  • Capsule
  • Syrup/Liquid
  • Drop
  • Inhaler
  • Injection
  • Other

This helps the app guide you correctly.

8️⃣ Enter the Dose ⚖️

Depending on the medicine type, select:

For Tablets

  • Number of tablets or mg

For Capsules

  • Number of capsules or mg

For Syrups:

  • ml, ampule(s), applicator(s), cartridge(s), container(s), cup(s), drops(s), syinge(s), vial(s), allocation(s), auto injectors(s), carpuject(s), CC, IU, Pen(s), Unit(s)

For Inhalars:

  • Number of puff(s), ampule(s), Blister(s), cartridge(s), CC, ml, Respule(s), Strips(s), Vials(s)

For Injections:

  • ml, CC, IU, Pen(s), syinge(s), Unit(s), Vials(s), ampule(s), carpuject(s), auto injectors(s)

For Drops:

  • drops(s), container(s), ML

For Liquids:

  • ml, ampule(s), applicator(s), cartridge(s), container(s), cup(s), drops(s), syinge(s), vial(s), allocation(s), auto injectors(s), carpuject(s), CC, IU, Pen(s), Unit(s)

✔ All common medication types and measures are supported.

9️⃣ Choose the Frequency ⏱️

Select how often you take the medicine:

  • Every day
  • Every other day
  • Every 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 / 12 hours
  • As needed

🔟 Set the Alarm ⏰

Each medicine gets its own separate alarm.

  • Select the date
  • Select the time
  • Tap SET ALARM TIME

✔ Every medicine will alert you individually.

After setting up the alarm, you will receive a notification and alarm. You can:

  • Tap TAKE when you take the medication
  • Or tap SNOOZE – then the alarm will ring every 5 minutes until you take the medication and click the TAKE button.

1️⃣1️⃣ Add Instructions (Optional) 📝

You can write notes like:

  • “Take after meals”
  • “Avoid dairy”
  • “Take with water”

Tap NEXT to save.

1️⃣2️⃣ Add More Medicines ➕

You can add as many medicines as you need. Just repeat the same steps:

  • Add medicine
  • Select type
  • Enter dose
  • Set frequency
  • Set alarm

Each medicine will appear separately in your list.

1️⃣3️⃣ Edit or Delete Medicines ✏️🗑️

Go to Summary:

  • Tap EDIT to change dose, frequency, or alarm
  • Tap DELETE to remove a medicine

1️⃣4️⃣ View All Medicines in Summary 📋

The Summary page shows:

  • All medicines you added
  • Dose
  • Frequency
  • Alarm time
  • Instructions

Everything is organized in one place.

1️⃣5️⃣ Add Bystander Contacts 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

You can add:

  • Name
  • Phone number
  • Email
  • Relationship

From the app, you can:

  • Call directly 📞
  • WhatsApp call 📱
  • WhatsApp message 💬

⚠️ Call charges may apply depending on your country.

Your bystander list also appears in Summary.
