MediNilam – Complete Installation, Setup, and Usage Guide

This guide explains how to install MediNilam, create or log in to your account, complete the required device settings, and use all features of the app correctly. Following these steps ensures that medicine reminders and alarms work reliably.

  1. Download and Install MediNilam

  • Open the Google Play Store
  • Search for “MediNilam”
  • Tap Install
  • After installation, tap Open
  • Log in with your existing account, or select Register to create a new account – An active internet connection is required for login or registration

After you log in or create your account, MediNilam will display a list of required system settings.

Each item in the list shows an indicator:

  • Red circle with a cross — action required
  • Green circle — already completed; no action needed

If an item shows a red circle, tap the circle to open the relevant settings page and complete the requirement.

  1. Device Setup Requirements

These settings ensure that MediNilam can deliver accurate alarms and notifications for your medicines.

2.1 Battery Optimization (Set to Unrestricted)

Status: Red or Green indicator

Battery optimization can block background processes and prevent alarms from ringing. If the indicator is red:

  • Tap the red circle
  • Your phone will open the battery settings page
  • Find MediNilam
  • Select Unrestricted or Allow all background usage
  • Return to the app

The indicator will turn green once completed.

2.2 Exact Alarm Permission

Status: Red or Green indicator

MediNilam requires exact alarms to deliver reminders at the correct time. If the indicator is red:

  • Tap the red circle
  • Enable Exact Alarms for MediNilam
  • Ensure alarm sound is enabled
  • Return to the app

The indicator will turn green once permission is granted.

2.3 Notifications

Status: Red or Green indicator

Notifications must be fully enabled for reminders to appear. If the indicator is red:

  • Tap the red circle
  • Turn Allow Notifications ON for MediNilam
  • Ensure sound, pop‑up alerts, and reminder alerts are enabled
  • Return to the app

The indicator will turn green when notifications are fully enabled.

2.4 Do Not Disturb Override

Status: Red or Green indicator

If your phone is in Do Not Disturb mode, alarms may be silenced unless override access is granted. If the indicator is red:

  • Tap the red circle
  • Your phone will open the Do Not Disturb access page
  • Find MediNilam
  • Enable Allow Do Not Disturb Override
  • Return to the app

The indicator will turn green once access is granted.

  1. Completing Setup

When all indicators are green:

  • Tap Back to return to MediNilam
  • You will be directed to the MediNilam home page

On the home page, you can read our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy by visiting: www.alnilam.lk. By clicking CONTINUE, you agree to our terms.

  1. Adding Your Medicines

After clicking CONTINUE, you can begin adding your medicines.

4.1 Add Your Medication
  • Type the name of your medication in the input field
  • Tap Add
  • You will automatically be directed to the Select Medication Type page
4.2 Select the Medication Type

Choose the correct category:

  • Tablet
  • Capsule
  • Syrup
  • Inhaler
  • Injection
  • Drops
  • Liquid
  • Others
  1. Entering the Dose

Depending on the medicine type, select the correct dose format.

Tablets

  • Number of tablets or mg

Capsules

  • Number of capsules or mg

Syrups

  • ml, ampule(s), applicator(s), cartridge(s), container(s), cup(s), drops(s), syringe(s), vial(s), allocation(s), auto injector(s), carpuject(s), cc, IU, pen(s), unit(s)

Inhalers

  • Puff(s), ampule(s), blister(s), cartridge(s), cc, ml, respule(s), strip(s), vial(s)

Injections

  • ml, cc, IU, pen(s), syringe(s), unit(s), vial(s), ampule(s), carpuject(s), auto injector(s)

Drops

  • Drop(s), container(s), ml

Liquids

  • ml, ampule(s), applicator(s), cartridge(s), container(s), cup(s), drops(s), syringe(s), vial(s), allocation(s), auto injector(s), carpuject(s), cc, IU, pen(s), unit(s)

(For “Liquids”, you may type the required amount in words or numbers.)

Others

Includes: lotion, ointment, gel, cream, powder, foam, herb, softgel, toothpaste, chewy bites, shampoo, spray, nasal cannula, teaspoon, tablespoon, pump, suppository, packet, pessary, piece, inch, fingertip, device, scoop, patch, EA, gummy, IU, cup, L.

(For “Others”, you may type the required amount in words or numbers.)

After entering the dose, you will be directed to the Frequency page.

  1. Choose the Frequency

First, select how often you take the medicine.

After selecting the frequency, you will be taken to a separate window where you choose the first dose date and time. The alarm will ring exactly at the first dose time you select and then continue based on the frequency you chose.

  • Every day — Select the time in the next window. The alarm will ring at the exact selected time every day (for example, 10.30 am daily).
  • Every other day — The alarm will ring at the exact selected time every other day (for example, 10.30 am on alternate days).
  • Every 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 / 12 hours — After selecting the first dose time in the next window, the app will remind you at the chosen interval.
  • Choose your own timing
    • Set any number of hours up to 168
    • Set any number of days up to 168
    • After selecting the first dose date and time in the next window, the alarm will repeat according to your custom interval.
  • As Needed (PRN) After selecting As Needed, you will still choose the date and time in the next window. This will create only one single-dose reminder. No repeated alarms will be generated.
  1. Set the Alarm

After selecting the frequency, you will now set the first dose in the separate window.

  • Select the date
  • Select the time
  • Tap Set Alarm Time

You will then see the upcoming doses (first to third dose), except for As Needed, which will show only one dose. Tap Continue to proceed.

  1. Instructions

You may now add any special instructions or notes for the medicine.

This can include details such as:

  • “Take after meals”
  • “Avoid dairy before taking”
  • “Use only if pain is severe”
  • “Shake well before use”

Type your instruction or note, then tap Next.

  1. Prescription Page

Here you will see all medicines you have added.

Displayed information includes:

  • Type of medication
  • Frequency (e.g., every day, every 8 hours)
  • Repeating interval (e.g., 8 hourly)
  • Next dose time (blue dot)
  • Countdown timer to next dose
  • Previous dose time (visible only after your first dose)
  • Next scheduled dose date and time (marked as “schedule”)

Note:Review all details carefully. If anything is incorrect, delete the medicine and re‑enter it.

Note: You cannot edit or delete during the entry process. You must reach the final prescription page first, then use Add More or delete and re‑enter.

Every medicine will alert you individually.

  1. Taking Your Medicine

When it is time for your medicine:

  • You will hear an alarm
  • You will receive a notification saying: “It is time to take your medication”

Here you can Snooze or Proceed.

Snooze

If you tap Snooze, the alarm will stop and ring again after 5 minutes.

Proceed

If you tap Proceed, you will reach the Reminder Page.

On the reminder page, you will see:

  • Previous doses ((visible only after you take your first dose)
  • Current dose
  • Options: Take, Skip, or Reschedule
  • Upcoming doses (scroll if you have many medicines)

Rescheduling

If you reschedule a dose:

  • The next dose time will shift accordingly
  • Example: If you delay an 8:00 AM dose by 5 minutes, the next dose will also shift by 5 minutes
  • If you want the next dose to return to the exact original schedule, delete the medicine and re‑enter it

Missed Dose

If you do not respond:

  • After ~3 minutes the alarm stops
  • After ~6 minutes you will receive a notification saying you missed a dose
  • Tap the notification to see the missed dose list
  • You can choose Take or Skip

Note: If you do not respond in the reminder page by clicking Take, Skip, or Reschedule, you will again receive a missed‑dose message after 6 minutes. You can choose Take or Skip from that message.

  1. Adding More Medicines

You can add as many medicines as needed. Repeat the same steps:

  • Add medicine
  • Select type
  • Enter dose
  • Set frequency
  • Set alarm

Each medicine appears separately in your list.

  1. 7‑Day History

On the home page, you can view your 7‑day history:

  • All doses taken
  • Missed doses (shown in red)
  • Date and time of each dose
  • Your adherence percentage

  1. Renewal & Subscription

  • Tap the menu (three lines) on the left side
  • Tap Subscribe Now
  • You can subscribe after your current subscription ends
  1. Bystander Contacts

You can add:

  • Name
  • Phone number
  • Email
  • Relationship

From the app, you can:

  • Call directly
  • Make a WhatsApp call
  • Send a WhatsApp message

Call charges may apply depending on your country.

Your bystander list appears in the Summary section.
